My name is Ana and I live in Lisbon, Portugal, where I started a small hand bookbinding business.

In this blog I will show my work but also what inspires me, not all that inspires me is bookbinding related, as you'll see. I've always loved notebooks, journals, stationary and any other kind os paper related craft and I am very happy to finally be doing something I love. :)
I'll try to give you some tips about bookbinding and other crafts, running a creative business and all else I find interesting. I want to encourage the handmade movement, I want to share my experience and my love for hand crafts, design and creative living.
I come from a family where creativity was always very important, where handmade was valued, where D.I.Y. was encouraged. I learned various hand crafts from my family but, as I had a thirst for knowledge and particularly in traditional crafts, I started to seek any snippet of information that would allow me to try something new.
I first learned bookbinding, in a very basic form, when I was around 11 years old, at school in my crafts class, and I was hooked! :)

I have always, in one way or another, made notebooks and photo albums, but until about 7 years ago, I never even thought of making it my job. Then I was in between jobs and was looking to work in something more satisfying. I learned then most of the skills that I use now. But although my family and friends were very supportive, I didn't have the drive, then, to take a chance and change.
I have it now, so, welcome to my new adventure!
I try mostly to use recycled paper, linen and old fabrics, that my mother and aunts give me, they were all seamstresses at one point in their lives and have many small pieces of fabric left.
I'm also very interested in Portuguese traditional crafts and expect to bring that to my work also very soon.

O meu nome é Ana e moro perto de Lisboa, onde recentemente abri uma pequena empresa (EU) de encadernação artesanal.
Neste blog vou mostrar o meu trabalho, mas também o que me inspira, nem tudo o que me inspira é relacionado com a encadernação, como terão oportunidade de verificar. Sempre gostei de cadernos, blocos de notas, diários e qualquer tipo de objecto de papel, artesanal ou não, e por isso estou muito feliz de por fim estar a fazer algo pelo qual sou apaixonada! :)

Vou tentar dar-lhe algumas dicas sobre encadernação artesanal e outras artes tradicionais, sobre o dia-a-dia de uma empresa criativa e tudo o mais que eu achar interessante. Eu quero encorajar o movimento do Artesanato Contemporâneo, quero partilhar a minha experiência e o meu gosto pelo artesanato, design e vida criativa.
Venho de uma família onde a criatividade sempre foi muito importante, onde o artesanato é valorizado e o fazermos nós mesmos era encorajado. Aprendi várias artes com a minha família mas tinha uma sede de conhecimento em particular no artesanato tradicional pelo que comecei a pesquisar qualquer pequena informação que me ajudasse a criar ou tentar fazer algo novo.
Aprendi pela primeira vez encadernação quando tinha mais ou menos 11 anos, na aula de trabalhos manuais, e fiquei viciada! :)

Sempre fiz os meus próprios cadernos de notas e álbuns de fotografia, mas até à 7 anos atrás nunca pensei em fazer disso profissão. Nessa altura estava entre trabalhos e à procura de fazer algo que me trouxesse maior satisfação. Foi então que aprendi a maioria das técnicas que hoje em dia utilizo. Mas, embora tivesse todo o apoio da minha família e amigos, faltava-me a força de vontade necessária à mudança.
Mas agora, não me falta essa vontade de mudar, de fazer algo diferente, portanto bem-vindos à minha nova aventura!
Tento utilizar principalmente papel reciclado, linho e tecidos antigos que a minha mãe e tias me dão, todas elas foram costureiras em algum momento das suas vidas e têm muitos restos de tecido ainda.
Sempre que possível os materiais utilizados nos meus trabalhos são feitos em Portugal ou adquiridos a fornecedores Portugueses e espero que de futuro seja assim em 100% dos materiais.
Também me interesso muito pelo Artesanato Tradicional Português e espero trazer brevemente para o meu trabalho essa minha paixão.
